Just finished Ghost Hunters of the South (2006) by Alan Brown. It identifies several ghost hunting organizations in the South (Atlantic Coast to Texas) at that period.
It’s broken down by state, then organization. It offers an inside look of each group- personnel, community, and investigative experiences.
Brown makes efforts to address the good with the bad. Not all communities welcome their ghost hunting groups- nor do all the churches. Several of the groups have encountered the "witchcraft" pov. Some groups are welcomed and encouraged- even local TV station tag-alongs (usually for Hallowe’en).
Some of the groups address their demographics- police, engineers, housewives... whomever makes up the group. I think that the diversification helps strengthen the group and perhaps adds "validity" to their efforts. They even address the use of sensitives-- another can of worms in the paranormal/parapsychic realm.
It’s worth a look for those researchers/investigators starting out in the South. (If your just curious, give it a read through). The insight in the organizations and some of the reasons they exist is a good starting point for determining if you’d be interested in the affiliation.
Just thought I’d share a little on the books I read here. Quick synopsis kind of thing. I welcome any reading suggestions, comments, and so forth.
